The Sidney UMC is a loving, active, and Christ-Centered Community
The Triune God:
God: We believe in the one true and living God, who exists in three distinct persons, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus: We believe that Jesus is the second person of God, and on earth was Fully God and Fully Human. We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, taught, healed, loved, forgave, and performed countless miracles on earth. We believe that Jesus Christ our Lord died on a Roman Cross for the Sins of the world, and that he rose from the dead three days later. We believe that Jesus ascended to heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father, and that Jesus will return to earth one day in glory.
The Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of God and is the person of God that convicts us of sin, sanctifies us, leads us to salvation in Christ, and guides and strengthens the church.
The Holy Bible:
Bible: We believe that the Bible is the Inspired Word of God, and that it contains all things necessary for Salvation in Jesus Christ. The Bible is our primary source of truth, and it is the sole authority for our faith, our life, and the church.
Wesleyan Quadrilateral: We believe that while scripture is the sole authority for our faith, our life, and the church, our faith is also informed by the tradition of the church, human reason, and our own experiences.
Salvation in Christ:
Salvation: We believe that through turning from our sin and darkness and embracing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are offered eternal salvation through the life-giving shed blood of Christ. This is a free gift offered to us, so that we can share and live this good news with everyone.
Church: The church exists to love, care, serve, preach, teach, and guide people into relationship with Jesus Christ. The church preaches God’s word, equips people around their gifts and graces, and serves and transforms the community and the world. We do all of this for the glory of the Triune God.
Humanity and People: We believe that all people are broken and need God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ, and the power of Holy Spirit. Within us is a longing to know God, and to be in relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The ministries of the church are open to all people, so that all people might know God, follow Christ, and transform the community and the world through the power of the Holy Spirit.
